More Proof 5. Teenage Bad Girl
April 30

JUST ANNOUNCED: This will be the party to kick off Toronto’s summer of More Proof. The More Proof DJs will be pumping up the crowd May 12th at the Drake Underground on Queen St. - serious dance party. Also check out Andre 9 & Colin Bergh DJing live on CIUT Tuesday May 1st at 5pm for a taste of what’s to come. That’s 89.5 in Toronto.

The amazing Vitalic’s record label Citizen just released an album from Teenage Bad Girl. The title and the first single is Cocotte. The artwork pictured above was done by Parra, one of my favorite artists. I’m a little confused, not quite sure what’s going on in the video, directed by Jean Demery:

Guide Horses, of Course. The Kills
April 24

Did you know that if you are visually impaired, you can acquire a guide horse from guidehorse.org? If you already knew that, did you know that there are sneakers made for miniature horses, so that when theyre guiding you through the city, they fit into the urban environment?

Pictured above is an ad for “Mare Jordans” but there are competitor sneakers also available:

Guide horses are very friendly:

The Kills have always been a buzz band that I didn’t pay attention to. They seemed like just another retro band around the turn of the millenium. Now that the smoke has cleared on the White Stripes / Strokes / Yeah Yeah Yeahs era, some of their songs are sticking with me. This video is pretty nice, too.

more proof 4. more feist, too.
April 18

Here are my photos from last friday’s More Proof event. Despite some real problems, we pulled the night off. Sorry to all the people who couldn’t get in, we’re moving to a different venue next month.

iPod BATTLE TOMORROW, COME CHEER FOR MY TEAM

Tomorrow I’m competing in Toronto’s latest iPod battle. I cannot wait. The idea is that two teams go song for song, best crowd favorite wins. Come out and lose your voice!

I was listening to some fave female artists the other day while in line at the grocery store. What’s with girl magazines these days, girl power is gone, or is just about using sex to control men. Here’s another new Feist video that might make girly magazines embarassed.

Good girly stuff going down in toronto: new club night Thunderpussy. Some of this town’s best female DJs.

More Proof 3. Little girl.
April 16

Here is a quote my friend Mimi just posted on her website. It resonates with me strongly, as if it has truth that I can feel.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of god. Your playing small doesn’t serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to manifest the glory of god within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. When we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.

- Nelson Mandela

I was sorting through my photos from Friday’s more proof #4, only to find i had never posted pics from last month’s. So before I post new photos, here’s a look back at More Proof from one month ago. I hope these are random enough for you.

It’s the whole crew!

Look at this video.

Mike Patton. Dan The Automator. Feist Video
April 13

Yesterday I got the chance to interview Mike Patton and Dan the Automator. You hear annoying things about Mike, but after meeting him the only annoying thing is that I had heard negi things at all. He was such a nice, genuine guy, and I look up to him for his work ethic and attitude. Lately he is most known for this youtube clip of him dissing Wolfmother:

Asking him about this video, he obviously had some regrets about it. Not so much what he had said, more that he keeps getting asked about it. He is getting defined by one little moment in one little interview. I’m ambivalent about proliferating it here.

The Locust signed a big record deal with Epitaph, so he wont be releasing anything more of theirs. It was a trip to talk about 31g and gsl with Mike - old, old listening worlds collide. Also, Dan said there’s a new Deltron record coming.

When the first Feist record came out my kneejerk response was “whatever.” I guess it didn’t fit into my hectic life and or my ipod filled with electro beats, rap and rock. In response, I gave it to my mom.

CUT TO: months later, after some porch listening to my mom’s copy in the cool summer breeze, I’m obsessed with the record. I always felt a little bit off about how much of a summer record it was to me. Lyrically I think it was meant to be a winter album.

Here’s the first video from her new record.

The Rapture - Pieces of the People We Love
April 11

I feel so removed from who I was 12 days ago. So much has happened in those 12 days, it’s like that series ended and I’m living a spinoff show. The character is the same, but he’s dealing with some different challenges in this new surrounding. It’s good to have a fresh look.

There’s a reason most spinoff shows don’t work - often you tune in only to find you wish you were watching the original.

Here is the latest video from the Rapture. I like the details in this video: sequined suits, mic cable spilled out over the floor, people coming out of the shadows. It’s a simple looking show, but there’s a lot to see.

The latest episode of the Beat Down podcast is now online, getting you ready for friday’s More Proof party. It features mash ups by some of the more proof DJs. Don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast.

Shitdisco - OK
April 9

It turns out, it’s pretty impossible to find a better photo of these sneakers, let alone buy them. I’m intrigued by them.

Shitdisco appear to be one of the world’s most dance of dancepunk groups - their wikipedia cites influences Donna Summer, Arthur Russell and The Prodigy. Their new album Kingdom of Fear comes out next week and their new single is “OK”. The video is directed by Price James, who recently did Simian Mobile Disco’s It’s The Beat.

Junos weekend!
April 7

Last weekend i was in Saskatoon for the Junos. If you ever get a chance to go to the Junos, do it. The good parts don’t really make it to the tv, theyre all in the being there.

My highlight was being able to DJ the mtv preparty - amazing band fritz helder also played. One word: “It was Slammin.”

The world is flat:

Then the night time comes,

Perez Hilton at afterparty. He was really nice, like a beacon of blue hair across the room all night.

The weekend was bittersweet for personal reasons, and all I can say now is that I love my friends. They are so valuable, worth so much cash. To help myself feel better this week I’ve been writing love antidote songs and watching this over and over:
