With every slice of MySpace electro she’s put out so far, Uffie has been smooshing genres and attitudes together. With the title track to her forthcoming album, “First Love,” she takes this further. It may seem dubious that First Love’s 80s teen romantic could be the same artist that said “I got my man, my sound, my glass, and I’m ready to f***”, but Uffie is eighteen, and it’s not a stretch to imagine both realities being true.

There’s something particular about the best Parisian dance music that can be attributed to an old $100 piece of music equipment called a compressor. The effect is used heavily by Cassius, but it was Daft Punk who made the sound famous trying to capture the sound of FM radio. “Sometimes you like it so much that you’re really disappointed when you buy the CD.”
The french touch’s use of filters may be the sound Paris is best known for, but long after people got tired of filters, the compressor lives on.
I’m bugging out about these things because I bought one and it just arrived:

Picked up a new magazine yesterday, and did a serious DOUBLE TAKE. The new YSL ads feature Vincent Gallo.

Sirius Mo is a berliner with an eclectic sound. Found on myspace a while back (thanks to whoever it was that sent me that link), and now working with wonderful Berliners Modeselektor on their new stuff.

All this month More Proof has been featured on Electric Sound Basement, our pal Steve’s show on CIUT 89.5 fm in Toronto. Tune in for the last installment next tuesday the 15th. But if you missed the last two spots, they are being archived on our very own Beat Down, the More Proof podcast.
Today’s new episode features Colin Bergh’s set (my personal favorite). Subscribers, check your itunes for the new episode. Non subscribers, Subscribe by clicking here. Lurkers, download it off the website. I heard a rumor that we may appear on this radio show more often, and we cannot wait.

Here’s another piece of amazing news, Fritz Helder & the Phantoms will be playing one last Toronto show before they disappear for the summer and re-emerge in the fall as huge stars. I can’t wait for their album - the live show is great, the beats impressive, and then of course there’s Fritz. Here’s the listing:
Thunderpussy

Don’t sleep! Nelly Furtado loves this band, for good reason
Rock bands have been dabbling with synthesizers for years, but it’s always really great when bands have dedicated synth players. Belgium’s Goose are doing a great job, kind of like a synth Franz Ferdinand. Their record Bring It On came out last year, and the title track is one of my favorite things lately.

While Jackie and I were discussing how much we like the name Goose, she mentioned that their name could be taken as a reference to Duck, Duck, Goose - implying that they are “it.” Their site has a great videos section, but here’s my fave, for the song “Low Mode”
March’s More Proof was hosted by Mischief & Mayhem. Here’s the video:
