The Scene of The Crash: TMZ Singlehandedly Running Lindsay Lohan Into The Ground
July 27

Celebrity gossip marauders tmz.com have every possible detail of this week’s landmark Lindsay Lohan nosedive: Lindsay: “I Wasn’t Driving, the Black Kid Was”

According to the group, Lindsay suddenly jumped in the driver’s seat of the Denali, started the engine and began driving — chasing the assistant’s car.

They say at one point, Lindsay boasted, “I can’t get in trouble. I’m a celebrity. I can do whatever the f**k I want.”

Also: TMZ has obtained the 911 tape describing what went down with the Lindsay Lohan incident.

David Sedaris’s books are notorious for causing public LOLs. The books collect his essays, so reading this one in a recent New Yorker may serve as a preview for a future book. But the real reason you should read it is because it’s great. Sedaris’ This Old House

If you saw Ratatouille, you might have noticed that the voice of that beautiful rat was one Patton Oswald. If you know him, congratulations. If you don’t? Watch:

One Stoner Hero Animates Another
July 23

Going into their 11th season of Emmy-nominated television, South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have created these animated shorts depicting the words of philosopher Alan Watts.

The above short, Music & Life is an indictment of the American Dream, and a perfect example of why this is such a great fit - Watts is a defender and of critic of Western values, and loosely affiliated with stoner culture.

Move Over Phoenix: France Gets Its 2nd Great Rock Band
July 18

With last year’s self-titled album, Alex Gopher tossed aside his electro persona for an all new solo project: a pop rock band. In a country renowned for its dance music and its weak rock, perhaps it’s fitting that an electro producer breaks out with a hot rock record.

The new single from the Alex Gopher album is “The Game” and features this colourful video.

Are YouTube Dance Crazes The Future of Hip Hop?
July 16

Jason Fox’s Aunt Jackie Video blends old school hip hop / dance flavours into one big bowl of Jermaine Dupri record deal. Last year’s Chicken Noodle Soup was a dance craze with no apparent quality and kind of made me angry at the direction Harlem was going, but Aunt Jackie is more my style. Did you know that in the 80s rap was backed by disco beats? Thank you, Jason Fox.

In other news, the #1 Album of Year contender so far has a wikipedia page.

Smashing Pumpkins: Let’s Never Fight Again
July 6

When Billy Corgan took out a full page ad in two local Chicago newspapers to whine about his life or something, it catapulted the band into my Don’t Care Zone indefinitely.

What a pleasant surprise to see the video for their new single Tarantula really bringing it. I like the colours and the Sabbath motif. Billy and Co will always hold a special place in my eyes, they’ve always been able to knock out a good video.

Midnight Juggernauts
July 3

Melbourne’s Midnight Juggernauts recently got a big shout out from Justice on BBC Radio 1. If i remember correctly, Gaspard said he liked them because they were a new electro artist but they were a sort of classical pop group, too.

I really dig Into The Galaxy because it seems to rewrite a lot of old space rock like Roxy Music and Bowie but with a more punk rock edge. Now with the video even moreso - it manages capture the energy of this new rock music in a very traditional performance-video. No gimmicks required.

Boys Noize
July 1

To help us celebrate Canada day here in Toronto, German producer Boys Noize is in town playing at the Guvernment superclub. I would love to go see him DJ if it was a smaller venue or shorter show, so I will celebrate his presence by listening to his music.

The Boys Noize sound is very hard and heavy, emphasizing distortion and huge beats. It’s like techno sounds, but with a modern electro’s experimental, stompy vibe. Check out some tracks on the myspace page - especially the remix of Feist’s My Moon My Man. The debut album Oi Oi oi will be out worldwide in September.

Here’s the video for the Boys Noize remix of I Robots’ Frau:
