Sebastien Tellier vs. SebastiAn: Boning Up On Sexuality
September 30

With his new album Sexuality set to hit stores in February, Parisian phenom Sebastien Tellier looks poised to take center stage with his high profile friends.

And he has friends: he’s on Air’s label with Kavinsky, he just finished an album with Mr. Oizo and SebastiAn of Ed Banger records, and his new album is produced by Daft Punk’s own Guy-Manuel.

Check out the first single, Sexual Sportswear. While his dark, emotional style is still intact, this sounds more like a twisted soundtrack than his previous efforts. The single is coming October 16th with an anticipated remix from SebastiAn.

Mr. Oizo may have directed a video for this song too, but this fan-made video for Sebastien’s classic La Ritournelle is really exceptional:

The State of Hip Hop 2007 (or New Jay-Z Album this November!)
September 20

Jay-Z

Just announced! Jay-Z album to drop November 6.
Jay-Z was so inspired by the new film American Ganster that he wrote an album. It’s not a soundtrack, he just felt an album’s worth of inspiration. The first single “Blue Magic” was produced by Pharrell and word is you’ll be hearing it everywhere soon. This is shaping up to be some retirement.

But are interest levels in Jay-Z at a low? Until this month’s Kanye and 50 head-to-head, it looked like hip hop heavyweights were in decline. And if groups like Dude-N-Nem have anything to do with it, we’re in for some new heavyweights.

There’s a new era of hip hop emerging, and it’s exposing the old boys’ declining relevance. I can’t wait to see what Hov brings this time around, but until then, show me what you got, Dude N Nem:

Prince Caspian The Revolution
September 18

I’m going to preface this: Lord of the Rings has nothing on Narnia. Sorry Tolkien, but you’re too complicated to fit in a movie, and your books never grabbed me. The new Narnia flick has me hyped - no Christmas release date mushy stuff, more action, more young adults kicking mythic butt.

That said, they didn’t really update it for the modern viewer like I was expecting. Here’s the version I wish would hit theaters:

Pop, Lock & Drop It
September 15

Here’s a guy who acquired a robotic band from a Chuck E. Cheese type of place and re-programmed them to perform pop hits. This is not in a restaurant, it is in his basement:

Thanks to Colin for this!

Kanye & So-Me Sitting In A Tree
September 12

A raging Kanye West crashed the stage at last year’s MTV Europe Music Awards, grasping for the spotlight. He could not believe that someone had made a better video than his own for “Touch The Sky” - even worse, one he had not seen!

For his sunburnt new single “Good Life”, Kanye has opted for a good approach - if you can’t beat them, hire them to do your video.

Maybe this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

Hedi Slimane
September 10

I keep hearing that there was a “menswear revolution” in the past 5 years. That means skinny guys started to be cool. Thank you to the man who made it happen, Hedi Slimane.

black ghosts
September 7

While Simian Mobile Disco makes waves with their album, Simon, the singer from their old band Simian is working on The Black Ghosts. The video above was my favorite song of August.

Pay attention to these guys http://www.myspace.com/blackghosts
