This Hilarious Week in American Politics

No Comments || Posted in Politics

Are we actually in a Canadian election? American politics is so interesting lately, we’re being overshadowed. Boring is better when it comes to politics, though. Who needs drama in the capital?

Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains

When Sebastien Grainger recently finished his new solo album Sebastien Grainger and The Mountains, he was very kind to invite me into his studio to listen in detail to the finished product. I can’t wait for the world to see this album.

In the meantime I have been listening to it all the time, showing it to everyone who wants to hear it, and subsequently guarding my laptop from pre-release theft. I was just in LA and all of the talented musicians I was with almost jumped me for the files.

Now that his four-piece band has been playing together for over a year, they’re starting to feel like road-warriors, and when they come through your town I highly recommend catching one of these wild shows. Don’t get it twisted, this may not be Death From Above 1979, but this is a heavy heavy band!

Sebastien Grainger and the Mountains comes out October 21st, 2008. Watch for my two-part interview with Sebastien on MTV news in October.

More Proof x Eli Escobar. Photos

Last Friday we had so much fun at More Proof, and I blame Eli Escobar. This dude’s set was a destroyer.

Altogether too many photos after the break.

The Raw Behind the Scenes at Toronto International Film Fest

The glitz, the glamour, the partying, the movies, the suits the dresses the double sided tape. There’s a camaraderie among the industry people at film festival. The filmmakers, the actors, the reporters, the movers and shakers.

Inside of each of these hotel rooms you’ll find a dark little room where a movie star and their publicist sit. You have three questions or four minutes whichever comes first.

Outside of a screening at 9am you find a lot of people with a lot of coffee and a lot of silence.

What does a red carpet really look like?

And everywhere I go I see frickin Marcus Troy.

First Time Film Festival Rules

1 Comment || Posted in MTV, Photos

This was my first film festival as press. It’s day after day of screenings, interviews, red carpets, drinks, parties. I learned a couple things the hard way.

  1. Turn off your phone. Your 9am press screenings are for film lovers only. They’re hard to get into, they’re exclusive, and even if your phone is set to buzz, that buzzing against the chair sound will have the local Boston newspaper guy next to you hissing.
  2. Do not get the popcorn / drink combo. Ever. Movie theatre food sucks. I still eat it, because it makes me feel like I’m “celebrating film” or something. Don’t bother with it if you’re seeing two films / morning. You miss important parts if you have to run to the bathroom and your stomach feels terrible by the middle day two.
  3. Don’t believe the party hype There are only two words that will get me into a film festival party. Swag Bag. The first time is fun, the second time is iffy, by the third time you realize: unless your friends are there, it’s going to be lame.

RocknRolla is a lot of fun, and Guy Ritchie has returned to form. And Idris from the Wire is in it. Seriously.

Vancouver Is Fun

Don’t let anyone tell you about how Vancouver rains a lot and people are hippies. It just means that the plants look great because they’re watered, and no one hates the earth. Ok, so maybe they’re hippies, but they’re the cute-girl-doesn’t-litter hippie, not the hiking-nerd-specialty-granolafanny-pack-pothead kind. And they know how to have a good time.

Corey’s amazing sneakers. Yes exactly, he is walking on sunshine:

Big shouts to Neoteric and U-Tern whose club night really did the damn thing at Shine. Regrets to P-Dev that we didn’t connect better.

I have a problem. I buy too many pairs of shoes and I buy too many little notebooks to take notes in. At least they all get used:
